Welcome to the website of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) - Making equality between women and men a reality for all Europeans and beyond. Achieving equality in opportunities requires ensuring that we change the norms and stereotypes that limit the set of choices available both to men and women. It is difficult, but the evidence shows that social norms, too, can be changed.

        1. Equality between women and men is a fundamental principle of the European Union enshrined in the Treaties and is one of the objectives and tasks of the European Union, and that mainstreaming the principle of equality between women and men in all its activities represents a specific mission for the Union. 2. While considerable progress has been achieved over recent decades in terms of gender equality, gaps remain. Women are still concentrated in the lower-paid sectors of the labour market and are under-represented in decision-making. The European Commission’s Strategy for Gender Equality lays down its programme in this area for The strategy sets out priorities including equal economic.

This year’s report, which analyses data from to , shows that women are only halfway to equality with men, and that progress has stagnated since In , women .   Our investigation found that, on average, U.S. conferences had a gender breakdown of % women, whereas in Europe the average was %. Across all the speakers, when looking at how many spoke on stage alone rather than with partners or in groups, 36% were women and 64% were men.

Stark gender disparities remain in economic and political. On the occasion of this year's International Women's Day, the Commission has published its report on equality between women and men in the EU.

The report shows some progress in gender equality, but women still continue to face inequalities in many areas. European Legislative and Institutional Framework Gender equality and the fight to counter all types of discrimination against women lies at the core of the European Union's treaties: it is included in articles 2 and 3 of the Treaty on European Union (principle of the equality between men and women), in articles 8 and 19 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which stipulates.

People around the world seem cognizant of these changes in their own country. Majorities in 23 of the 27 countries surveyed believe that equality between men and women in their country has increased in the past two decades. The countries with the highest and lowest shares saying gender equality has increased can both be found in Europe.

equality between men and women in Europe. 5 The Commission’s Strategic engagement for gender equality will end inas will the mandate of the current Com- listed companies in the EU being held by women.

Attitudes and behaviours are changing very slowly, which shows a need for the continuous commitment of all actors. The Department of Justice and Equality and Ibec successfully held a conference in Dublin Castle on 25 November aimed at promoting and supporting gender balanced leadership.

The conference was supported by the European Union under its PROGRESS programme () and was moderated by the well-known journalist and broadcaster, Margaret E. Legally, men and women are equal in Europe. That equality is enshrined not just in national laws, but at the international level in the UN Convention on Human Rights, which declares: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.

However “equality” seems to mean different things to different people. Attaining equality between women and men and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women are fundamental human rights and United Nations values. Women around the world nevertheless regularly suffer violations of their human rights throughout their lives, and realizing women’s human rights has not always been a priority.

Equality between women and men Page 2 G ender equality means an equal visibility, empowerment, responsibility and par-ticipation of women and men in all spheres of public and private life.

It also means an equal access to and distribution of resources between women and men and valuing them equally. Gender equality aims to change the structures. Your next book has a more global perspective of the issue – International Handbook of Gender and Poverty: Concepts, Research, Policy.

Yes, what is really compelling about this book is its sheer breadth – one hundred plus articles bringing together voices from both Northern and Southern analysts, feminists and non-feminists, who are looking at a whole range of different aspects.

Equality between women and men must be ensured in all areas, including employment, work and pay. The principle of equality shall not prevent the maintenance or adoption of measures providing for specific advantages in favour of the under-represented sex. This right is enshrined in article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

equality between women and men in Europe. It focuses on five thematic priorities including increasing women’s eco-nomic independence, reducing the gender gaps in pay and pensions and addressing poverty among women, while pro-moting equality between women and men in decision-making.

Ina variety of initiatives started in all of these areas. Gender equality, also known as sexual equality or equality of the sexes, is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making; and the state of valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs equally, regardless of gender.

Gender equality is the goal, while gender neutrality and gender equity are. to reaffirm its strong commitment to gender equality. The principle of equality between women and men has been enshrined in the EU treaties already since Since then, a lot of progress has been made, women have reaped the benefits of education and significantly increased their pres-ence on.

Gender equality can be measured in various ways, for example, in terms of unemployment, pay gap, educational level, and unequal treatment. When it comes to unemployment, European countries differ.

We delve into the reasons why it is crucial that men are included in the push for gender parity in the tech sector, featuring insights from Executive Agile Coach Paul Klipp, an attendee at last year's European Women in Technology. “Gender equality is in the interest of countries, of companies, and of men, and their children and their partners,” stated sociologist Michael Kimmel during his.

equality between women and men. A complementary strategy is “targeted interventions” that have as their pri- mary goal the narrowing of gender gaps that disadvantage women. Yes, we all know it's the right thing to do.

But Michael Kimmel makes the surprising, funny, practical case for treating men and women equally in the workplace and at home. It's not a zero-sum game, but a win-win that will result in more opportunity and more happiness for everybody. For those who wonder why, on International Women’s Day, I’m writing an article focusing on men, I hope you’ve detected something of a theme.

Gender equality is not a “women’s issue”. This seeks to eliminate the spatial differentiation of women and men as a woman’s lack of autonomy impedes her access to equality. Thus in Islamic states women’s inequality because of the cultural and religious norms must be addressed by legislation but also efforts to change .A woman was either a lady or she wasn't, and we all know what the latter meant.
